Our launch of the Granite Belt BugSpace Gardener’s Network last Thursday night was a massive success with over 100 people attending!
Boomerang Bags Stanthorpe recently celebrated 10 years of turning reclaimed fabric into reusable bags. In that time, volunteers have made more than 17,000 bags.
In May, three motion sensor cameras were purchased with funding provided by the Friend of Parks Qld.

On Saturday September 19th there will be a joint GBSAN/Border Landcare Organic Group (BLOG) event focussed on worms. Starting at 10am at the Whistlestop Community Gardens.
GBSAN Bushcare group collaborated with SDRC on the Sentimental Rocks reserve where invasive plants such as Agave, prickly pear and Madeira vine had taken over.

TMR recently installed Quoll warning signs on the Texas Road, Pyramids Road leading into Girraween National Park and on the highway south to Wallangarra.

We advocated & Council listened. SDRC have installed a water refill station with a bubbler low enough for wheelchair accessibility, a bottle refilling tap and a water bowl for dogs.
Plastic Free July is over for another year. Two members of the Waste and Resource Recovery Group turned their minds to the challenge.
The Tenterfield Field Naturalists Birder’s group took us for a walk in Broadwater State Forest to listen and look for what feathered creatures were afoot on 22 July.

Term 3, which runs from July through to September, will see our project ramping up again with activities. We’ve started with the visit from Bell’s Turtle researcher, Dr Lou Streeting, visiting the school to read her book, “Where are all the Baby Turtles” to the students and being interviewed as an author by the students.

Water security continues to be a critical issue for our Granite Belt community, and we're pleased to see it receiving renewed attention from the State Government.
Following on from a successful launch of the Friends of Broadwater State Forest, there was an induction morning held at the Sims Lane entrance to the forest in early June.
The Landholders along Accommodation Creek welcomed Senior Ecologist with the Quoll Society, Paul Revie and Ash to discuss their conservation aims in building the riparian wildlife corridor along their section of the creek.
Our next major fundraiser will be the screening of David Attenborough’s “Ocean” at the Ballandean Hall on Saturday 31 October 2026.
We are pleased that the SDRC Parks and Operations Team will support the GBSAN/Ballandean State School community planting day in early October by preparing the planting holes along the riparian zone of Accommodation Creek to enhance the habitat for the turtles.
