Bird Places Brochure Reprint in the pipeline
Following exceptionally strong demand for the initial print run of the Bird Places of the Southern Downs brochure, GBSAN has secured funding from the SDRC though its Community Grants Programme to print a second batch.
The brochure, a GBSAN initiative strongly supported by Council, is part of our work to promote the Granite Belt and Southern Downs as a nature-based tourism destination. Bird watching is a key activity with hundreds of thousands of Australians actively participating in the activity every year. GBSAN is hoping that in addition to attracting visitors, the brochure will encourage locals to get out in the field and enjoy our rich avian fauna. The bigger picture is to foster a greater appreciation of our landscape and the need to invest in protecting it.
Of course in and of itself our landscape is of huge ecological value and is important in regards to community well being given the role of nature in helping people deal with the day to day stress of life. But in addition, the landscape is what attracts visitors to the Granite Belt so or landscape is an significant economic asset that underpins tourism and the growing nature-based tourism market.
The second print run will be distributed through the Region's network of tourism businesses. Copies are also available through the Stanthorpe and Warwick Visitor information centres.
