GBSAN Bushcare group collaborated with SDRC on the Sentimental Rocks reserve where invasive plants such as Agave, prickly pear and Madeira vine had taken over.

Members of the GBSAN Bushcare Group combined with the SDRC (council) staff for a working bee at Heritage Park on Wednesday, 20th May. With the assistance of a chainsaw operator we managed to fill a large truckload of privet (large and small leaved species) branches, leaves and invasive vines from the popular site near the heart of Stanthorpe. Thank you to everyone involved.

Our Bushcare Group is now coordinated by Andrew Pengelly. Andrew has extensive knowledge and experience with plant identification, management of plantings and weed management as well as medicinal and food uses of native plants and weeds.

The Bushcare group not only helped to prepare tracks for the students at Ballandean SS to explore the creek, they also worked at Sally’s property, in Eukey.

The Bushcare group worked at Haley’s property, Sugarloaf, on Wednesday, 11th February 2026. This follows up on support provided to the Quoll Society’s planting efforts at the same site in 2024,

The Bushcare group will be kicking off activities for the year with a tree planting event at Haley’s property on Wednesday, 11th February 2026.

Our Bushcare group had a great turn out on the 5 November, to plant 400 native plants at Rick and Mary’s place at Thorndale. Fantastic preparation with 400 holes 400mm wide dug by Bobcat saved a lot of back work and also prepared the ground well for the roots of the new trees to spread. We also had Andy Ferrier on board with his tractor and rake to pile up the mulch to tuck these beauties in. Seedlings, grown by Mole River Native Nursery, included local Eucalypts and Angophoras as well as understory of wattles, melaleucas and callistemons. This planting will hopefully assist in speeding up the natural revegetation occurring on the edge of some magic bushland. Our fantastic team had these new trees all sorted within 2 hours!

The Bushcare Group gathered in October to assist Pyramids Road Winery owners Sue and Warren to manage invasive weeds along a section of Accommodation Creek which is a buffer to Girraween National Park.

Our GBSAN Bushcare group did a mighty job clearing over 500 m of invasive weeds along Accommodation Creek! What a team!

Our Bushcare Group continues to work on worthwhile projects in the region. We had a successful morning assisting the Stanthorpe Rare Wildflower Consortium to weed around the critically endangered Grevillea Scortechinii - Black Grevillea. It was encouraging to find several new plants around the existing ones.

Work with preparation and planting of thousands of native trees and shrubs with Quoll Society Australia continued this month. The QuollSA team are an incredibly hard working team making a significant positive change in our area, linking strategic clusters of bushland. They are also very appreciative of the help our Bushcare Group offers. 

Our last project for the year will be assisting the Stanthorpe Community Garden on Saturday 7 December from 8:00am to 11:00. Followed by a morning tea. We will be showcasing our fantastic new gear purchased with the $1000 Stanthorpe RSL Community Grant. Our enthusiastic Bushcare group teamed up with Shannon, Paul and Jess from the Quoll Society Australia to assist with preparation and planting of over 2000 trees on Granite Belt properties.
