GBSAN Bushcare Group Activities

The Bushcare Group gathered in October to assist Pyramids Road Winery owners Sue and Warren to manage invasive weeds along a section of Accommodation Creek which is a buffer to Girraween National Park.

Focus was on two invasive weeds which are smothering native vegetation along the creek. These include Moth Vine and Tree of Heaven. As you can see from the photos, these invasive species have taken hold and prevent native species from flourishing.

Warren cut the larger trees with his chainsaw and Sue immediately applied a herbicide as these trees spread by suckering as well as seeds. Our team grubbed out the smaller trees as well as the moth vine. Although this seems like an impenetrable job, we have found that doing a big blitz with a team of workers makes it more manageable for the landholders.

We have been working downstream from the winery for the last 3 years and finding it manageable to keep on top of these weeds.

Tree of Heaven grows tall and suckers profusely along the creek.

Warren using the chainsaw to chop the bigger trees and Herbicide needs to be applied straight away to stop the suckering of new trees.

We always finish with a good chat and a fine feed!
