Quoll cameras installed along Accommodation Creek & a reminder about the Stage 2 launch on 11 October.

The Landholders along Accommodation Creek welcomed Senior Ecologist with the Quoll Society, Paul Revie and Ash to discuss their conservation aims in building the riparian wildlife corridor along their section of the creek.

Stage 1 of the Landscape Linkages Project along the riparian zone of Accommodation Creek at Wyberba and Lyra begins this month. We have also purchased a 20-foot storage container to house new tools for loan to GBSAN members.

We were successful in securing the Queensland State Government’s Grassroots Environ-mental Grant for the GBSAN Landscape Linkages project - Stage 1. We received funding for $44,579 for this 3 year project

Landscape Linkages

GBSAN has been busy writing grant applications, and the autumn season has seen the fruits of these endeavours. Not only did we receive funding for the school project from NED, but we also gained $2,500 from Friends of Parks to launch and support a Friends of Broadwater State Forest group and $45,000 from the Qld Government Grassroots Environmental Grant to establish Stage 1 of Landscape Linkages, run workshops for Landholders and acquire $15,000 worth of equipment (more to come about this project).

The outcome of our grant application to the Queensland State Government’s Grassroots Environmental Grant for the Granite Belt Landscape Linkages project is still pending, with an announcement expected in February.

The Landscape Linkages Project continues to make notable progress, with 58 landholders now participating.

Our team has continued work in recruiting landholders to join up to our Landscape Linkages project which will build clusters of corridors linking bushland to avoid further fragmentation of bushland that has led to species decline  in our region.

A flyer has been created to build more awareness of the project and hopefully encourage more people to register an expression of interest. 

Team members also met with like minded groups such as Granite Border Landcare, Condamine Headwaters Landcare, Sandy Hunter, Environment Officer with SDRC and Wim Linstrom from SQNNSW Innovation Hub. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the re-launch of the Land for Wildlife programme including establishing a coordinator/bushcare officer. All groups are in full support of this idea and a proposal will be ready for Grant applications early in 2025.

Word is getting out about this important project which aims to join up wildlife corridors/stepping stones across the Granite Belt to assist with survival of our wonderful and unique native fauna and flora. Currently we have 34 landholders who have signed up to the project. We are aiming to have 150 landholders involved in the project within the next 12 months.

Through the support of local landowners and various community groups including the original Land for Wildlife information we are seeking to map possible linkages or movement zones of wildlife as well as monitor for threatened species within the area.
