Landscape Linkages
Stage 1
The Landholders along Accommodation Creek welcomed Senior Ecologist with the Quoll Society, Paul Revie and Ash to discuss their conservation aims in building the riparian wildlife corridor along their section of the creek. It was interesting to hear what priorities each of the Landholders have, including what species to plant and where, how to stabilise the creek banks, how to encourage koalas and weed management. Paul will provide each of the Landholders with an A3 map including remnant vegetation and planting suggestions to fill the gaps in the corridor. This project is not only connecting landscapes to improve the habitat for our Fauna and flora, it will improve water quality and provides opportunities for social connections between the Landholders.
Paul Revie, Senior Ecologist and assistant, Ash from the Quoll Society with Beryl and Geraldine doing the site visits at Accommodation Creek.
Bank Stabilisation is one of the priorities.
Some sections of the creek are infested with the small-leafed privet bushes. Paul will assist us to have a strategy to deal with this. Stay tuned!!
We couldn’t keep Ash out of the many active wombat holes along the creek.
Major droughts and bushfires have taken their toll on the canopy layer in the corridor. Paul will assist the Landholders with a species list of Eucalypts to diversify the plant ecology and replace the lost canopy.
Trail Cameras
Trail cameras have arrived – We have received our 2 trail cameras which are part of the Grassroots Environment Fund grant for equipment to monitor what is going on at Accommodation Creek and on other properties we will be working with under the Landscape Linkages project.
Special thanks to Rose Coburn for her thoughtful donation of another trail camera and accessories in memory of her dear partner Craig Reid, who spent many hours on conservation activities.
Stage 2
Don’t forget to come along to the launch of Stage 2 of our Landscape Linkages project at Eukey Hall on 11 October.
All landholders signed up to the project will be invited and we will have guest speakers and a progress report of Stage 1. We are aiming to increase Landholder numbers with existing members inviting a neighbour or 2 along. We will survey the possibilities and needs of landholders to start stage 2.
Currently 62 Landholders signed up to the Landscape Linkages project.
