Cat Management Public Meeting 23 August
GBSAN's cat management group is proposing to hold a public information session on Saturday 23 August to help raise community awareness about the impacts cats are having on wildlife, neighbours and human health. The discussion will also cover what strategies can be used to encourage responsible pet ownership to try and reduce these impacts. Reece Pianta, an advocacy manager with the Invasive Species Council will be a guest speaker and it is hoped that representatives from the Southern Downs Regional Council will also attend to outline what steps they are taking to control cats.
Many councils throughout Australia have adopted strict controls over cat ownership, registration, de-sexing and containment and we would like to see stronger measures also introduced here so come along to get better informed about strategies that can be adopted.
The Council does respond the public complaints about stray cats and will come and trap them so if you see roaming domestic and feral cats, contact the Council on 1300 697 372 to report them. GBSAN also has cat traps available for loan if you have an unwanted roaming cat on your property.
The meeting will start at 1pm and will be held in the conference room at the Granite Belt Brewery on Glen Lyon Drive.
