GBSAN Schools Project

GBSAN has commenced work with Granite Belt schools, starting with Ballandean State School, to incorporate local biodiversity into the curriculum. The initial focus is on conservation efforts for the endangered Bell’s Turtle, native to Accommodation Creek. Students, school staff, and GBSAN members are looking forward to a visit to the University of New England on 6th February 2026, where they will meet Dr Lou Streeting and tour the Bell’s Turtle Hatchery. Dr Streeting will provide an information session and, hopefully, an opportunity to see the hatchlings. Additionally, GBSAN has applied for grant funding from NED (Nurturing Evolutionary Development) to engage specialists, artists, and First Nations people to work with the school throughout the year.
