Apple & Grape Float
Our characters created a parade highlight with street theatre - Lord Landfill, General Waste, General Electric, Captain Planet, Mother Nature, Containers for Change, and the wonderful feral cats (thanks to Pattie’s friends) – Merryl, Cheryl and Beryl Ferals
Apple and Grape 2026 – GBSAN Float was awarded a Highly Commended.
The GBSAN Community Engagement Team, together with many dedicated volunteers, collaborated to bring the 2026 Apple and Grape Float to life. Their collective efforts were inspired and guided by the boundless enthusiasm of Pattie, Chris and Peter, whose leadership and generosity in providing a venue for assembling the float were invaluable.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to Boomerang Bags and to Kate, Chris’s daughter, for their generous donation of 200 beautifully upcycled Boomerang Bags. These bags, filled by our volunteers with engaging information about GBSAN activities and details on SDRC recycling, proved to be a crowd favourite, with many community members expressing their excitement and reaching out for the bags.
Special recognition must be given to Peter Lee, who kindly lent his ute and served as the official driver for the event, ensuring the float’s smooth participation. Sincere thanks are also extended to Pattie’s friends who dressed up as characters and to Rick and Mary, who provided their trailer, which was transformed beyond recognition for the occasion.
The entire event was filled with joy and enthusiasm, and attendees left not only with smiles but also with Boomerang Bags brimming with information about building a more sustainable Granite Belt.
A big thank you to all helpers, supporters and participants.
