Volunteer needed for Terracycle program
Recycling at the Whistlestop Gardens
Our member, Elaine, is retiring to Norfolk Island and we need somebody to take over some very important work that she initiated here on the Granite Belt in the last couple of years.
Some of you may be aware of the Terracycle program recycling collection containers that are at the Whistlestop Gardens. Several items that can't be recycled through the Council system are collected here. Currently we are enrolled in aluminium coffee pods, hair care products, glad wrap and dishwash liquid containers. The amount collected fluctuates. Once a month Elaine has also been collecting containers from the hairdressers in town which is a service that has been well received and delivers over 10kg per month. The upshot is that TerraCycle donates a price per kilo to a charity of our choice.
Elaine would be prepared to show you the ropes in October before she heads off. It's not a big job and could even be done by a couple of people taking turns or doing it together. The current members of the Resource Recovery group are unable to take on more jobs as most of us are stretched with other volunteer roles too.
We would really love it if someone would come forward and take on this important role as it would be a shame to see it stop after all the work Elaine has put into setting it up.
