COP30 has come and gone; key outcomes are an acknowledgement an expected temperature rise of 2.6 degrees C by 2100 at current emission reductions targets.

Countries agreed on a list of 59 indicators to measure the implementation of adaptation actions

Expansion of the rights and inclusion of women, Indigenous people and Afro-descendent communities.

Brazil also announced its own initiative to develop 2 key roadmaps

-To halt and reverse deforestation

-To transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly and equitable manner

A further meeting of 24 countries will meet in April 2026 to progress this. Australia is amongst this 24.

The Qld Government released its Energy Roadmap 2025 on Oct 10th. This includes a $1.6 billion investment into state owned coal, hydro and gas assets. It provides $400 million to drive investment in renewables, like solar, hydro and batteries.

The Federal Government has released its emissions projections last week, we are currently on track to cut climate pollution by only 48% less than 2005 levels by 2035.

Most of this has occurred due to the electricity sector, for the first time renewables surpassed fossil fuels in October. The worst sector is transport where emissions continue to rise.

Latest data shows a good uptake of solar and home batteries in our local area with 16 batteries and 12 roof top solar installations in October.

GBSAN was invited to a meeting organised by SDRC and chaired by CoExistence Qld, on November 17th, also present were the SDRC Mayor and Councillors and council representatives, Chamber of Commerce, Granite Belt Wine and Tourism and Granite Belt Growers Assoc. The aim was to discuss how we could provide an equitable input into a Community Benefit Agreement which would be inclusive of all SDRC residents.
